The Smell Of Coffee
A western breakfast after two weeks in Thailand
One my last visit to Thailand we were relaxing on the island of Phuket. When traveling, I want to immerse myself into the traditions of the people and the land I am in. After almost two weeks of trying and enjoying Thai style breakfasts, I had a yearning for some of the foods I grew up having. We as humans all have our comfort foods, and having western style breakfasts are some of my fondest memories from growing up.
We found a nice little spot called Cafe Waya not too far from where we were staying, and decided to give it a try. The decor was simple and inviting, and the menu had all of the items one would want for a western style breakfast.
We started with coffee and a danish. The coffee was very nice and the latte had a perfect head of froth on it.
Growing up my mom would occasionally make eggs benedict but it had to be a special occasion like someone’s birthday, a holiday, or maybe mom just felt like cooking a bit more. The eggs benedict here were cooked perfectly, and the hollandaise sauce was tasty although a bit too lemony for my liking. Mom also would not give us any vegetables (rabbit food!) with our benedicts, so I ordered a side of hash browns to go with my meal.
Next we ordered some pancakes and were not disappointed. They were fluffy and light and served with maple syrup. We did have to request butter but the waitstaff promptly brought it to our table.
We went to Cafe Waya early Saturday morning and the restaurant continued to get busier as the morning passed. Most of the people seemed to know each other as if this was a weekly ritual of theirs.
Overall I would definitely come back for another breakfast or perhaps to try some of their lunch items.
